Lagos Cancels Monthly Sanitation As 1.5M Candidates Start JAMB Exam Tomorrow

The Lagos State Government has minimised the restriction order on human and vehicular movement during the February monthly environmental sanitation exercise, as the over 1,589,175 candidates that applied for the 2016 the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) prepare to write exam tomorrow, Saturday February 27.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare in Alausa, Lagos.

According to him, the order was to allow students, invigilators and other stakeholders participate effectively in the UTME, organized by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).

“As a responsible and responsive government, we value the education of our children very dearly and therefore resolved to relax the order in the interest of the future leaders of tomorrow,” Adejare added.

He, however, pointed out that the usual sanitation exercise would still be observed by residents in their homes.

Meanwhile, JAMB Registrar Dibu Ojerinde said in a statement yesterday that the examination which will hold simultaneously in 521 centres in Nigeria and 8 foreign centres is expected to last for 14 days.

Ojerinde said the minimum cut-off points approved by the policy committee chaired by education minister was 180 marks but “institutions are at liberty to go higher than 180 depending on their peculiarity and this does not in any way infringe on the powers of the Board.”
