Our appearance is greatly affected by the clothes we wear and this offers a need to have a thought of what we want to look like.
Many today,debate on representing or discarding culture through dressing. However,I would like to justify my preference for indigenous wears,also known as native wears.
The form of dress worn in the western part of the world especially Europe or North America is regarded as English wear. It is adopted for casual usage across the globe as durable and fashionable wear. Native wear on the other hand,refers to a traditional clothing that depicts which ethnic group or tribe a person belongs to
However,with no condemnation,I would choose indigenous wears over English trends. Why?identity is best represented by the way we dress
Youths today argue that we should go with the modern trend thereby taking up western wears as a better option but it should be kept in mind that our culture should be preserved in which dressing is one of the ways this could be done.
In addition,native attires are able to differentiate each occasion. There are a wide variety of costumes associated with different ceremonies thus,symbolizing unity amidst people of the same tribe. For example,in Nigeria,a country with hundreds of ethnic groups,indigenous wears are usually for special occasions. Often times,people in such wears are held in high esteem. Also,for religious meetings e.g in the mosque or church such attires are worn.
Following modern trends,western fashionable styles can be sewn with traditionally patterned fabrics,hence,promoting our culture and be very much attached to our source(origination)
